Global Tobacco and Nicotine Forum: Recruiting to BAT

Giordano was a speaker at the 2016 Global Tobacco and Nicotine Forum, an annual tobacco industry event.4
Giordano talked about the impact of “the negative public perception” of the tobacco industry on its people, meaning that “tobacco companies must work harder than other firms to attract the best and brightest”.
According to Giordano: “when first approached, 25 percent of potential recruits rejected BAT out of hand, 25 percent had no problem with tobacco and 50 percent were ‘reluctantly open-minded- they wished the call had come from another industry’”. Giordano added that BAT “ends up recruiting 95 percent of the candidates in the reluctantly open-minded group”.
