Background

Patrick Hayes is a reporter for Spiked;1 head of press and promotions at the Institute of Ideas; co-founder, Current Affairs Forum, and Battle of Ideas 2011 organising committee. 2

He is also a columnist for The Free Society.3 The Free Society was a campaign run by the tobacco industry front group Forest, whose website went offline around February 2015.4

Pro-Tobacco Activities

Hayes has attended pro-smoking events such as the “Save Our Pubs and Clubs” reception at the House of Commons on 29 June 2011 5 and a rally against the proposed ban at Stony Stratford along with speakers from The Freedom Association and Euro-sceptic MEPs Nigel Farage from UKIP and Tory Roger Helmer. 6
