James (Jim) Mortensen was a Philip Morris International (PMI) executive who left the tobacco company in January 2017.1

Long Standing Career with Philip Morris

Mortensen started his career in the tobacco industry in 1989 when he joined Philip Morris USA. In 1999, he became Senior Vice President Sales & Distribution at Miller Brewing Company (MBC), an affiliate of Philip Morris.2 When Philip Morris sold MBC in 2002 to South African Breweries (which created SABMiller)3, Mortensen joined PMI where he held several leadership positions until his departure in 2017, including:

  • Senior Vice President Human Resources (2014-2017)
  • President Latin America & Canada (2010- 2014)
  • Managing Director Mexico, Ecuador & Peru (2008-2010)
  • President Philip Morris Japan KK (2005-2008)
  • Vice President Marketing & Sales Philip Morris Japan KK (2002-2005)
