Cheryl Gillan was elected Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Chesham and Amersham (Buckinghamshire, England) in April 1992.
She served as Secretary of State for Wales (May 2010-September 2012) and Shadow Secretary of State for Wales (December 2005-May 2010).

Relationship with the Tobacco Industry

Accepted Tobacco Hospitality

In May 2011, Gillan accepted two tickets and lunch at the Chelsea Flower Show from Japan Tobacco International (JTI), worth £1,132.80. While this was declared in the Wales Office’s register of hospitality, she did not declare it in the House of Commons Register of Members’ Financial Interests.12 Gillan was criticised for accepting hospitality from JTI by Labour MP Nia Griffith, the shadow Wales Office minister.3

Gillan also accepted a theatre ticket and dinner from the lobbying company Bell Pottinger in June 2011.1
Bell Pottinger clients included Imperial Tobacco. This hospitality was also in the Wales Office’s register but not declared in the House of Commons Register of Members’ Financial Interests.
