Anthony (Tony) Ruys was a non-executive director of British American Tobacco (BAT) from 2006 until he retired from the Board in April 2014.12

Relationship with Alcohol and Food Industries

Ruys has worked in the food and alcohol industries:3
Prior to becoming a board member at BAT, between 2002 and 2005, Ruys was Chief Executive Officer at beer brewer Heineken in the Netherlands.4 Ruys had joined Heineken in 1993, being responsible for the company’s marketing.5
Ruys started his career with Unilever, where he worked from 1974-1993, holding several leadership positions in Colombia, Italy and the Netherlands.6
