Andrew Cave took up a senior corporate communications role at Philip Morris International in March 2012.

Background

Before this appointment, Cave had worked for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) as head of policy and public affairs for four years. He had also worked in Hill & Knowlton’s public affairs team, and as a campaign manager for the Conservative Party under Michael Howard’s leadership.

Appointed to Help Oppose Plain Packaging Regulations

Public Affairs News commented about Cave: “An assured media performer, he has helped to raise the FSB’s public profile in recent years through frequent TV news appearances, at the same time as fighting the organisation’s corner in Westminster and Whitehall”.1
At the time of Cave’s appointment, Philip Morris also appointed former Arnold Schwarzenegger aide Julie Soderlund as its director of regulatory communications, based in Switzerland. Public Affairs News added “The two appointments come as the tobacco industry gears up for a fight over the introduction of plain packaging for cigarette packs, with a dedicated campaign group set up to oppose the measure.”
