New STOP report looks at the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World’s rebrand and tax return

Global Tobacco Industry Watchdog STOP has published a new report looking at the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World’s (FSFW) 2023 tax return, as well as the organisation’s recent rebrand to Global Action to End Smoking (GAES). The piece investigates whether the financial evidence supports the idea that the GAES has cut ties with the tobacco industry.

The report found that:

“Despite [GAES] leadership’s public vow not to “accept or seek” tobacco money, that promise is not clearly defined in the group’s bylaws, and its “scientific integrity” statement contains no rule barring GAES from “exchanging information or interacting with any third party” to advance its goals.”

It also highlights that the organisation is still solely funded by Philip Morris International.
