Schur Star Systems is one of a number of packaging companies which has been lobbying MEPs in Brussels regarding the EU Tobacco Products Directive.

“Significant Economic Consequences”

In a letter sent to MEPs in September 2013, the German subsidiary of Schur Star reiterated the tobacco industry line that the TPD would have “significant economic consequences” for the tobacco industry and packaging companies.

The letter continued “From my perspective, the new TPD unfortunately makes no mention of our tobacco bags, whereas tobacco cans are subject to explicit consideration … Both operations – bags and cans – should be explicitly mentioned in the TPD”. 1

The letter was accompanied by what one MEP, Martina Anderson, tweeted as a “goodies package” of cigarettes and packaging. 2
