All Party Parliamentary Small Shops Group
The All Party Parliamentary Small Shops Group (APPSSG) says that its remit is to “highlight the concerns of the smaller retailer (as distinct from large multiples) and to draw attention to their social as well as economic role.”
The officers are:
- Chair: Priti Patel, the Conservative MP for Witham, who was appointed the chair of the Group in May 2012. As Chair, Patel has been lobbying against plain packaging;
- Vice-Chair: Lord Cotter (Liberal Democrat);
- Treasurer: Andrew Percy (Conservative);
- Secretary: Peter Aldous (Conservative);
The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) and the National Federation of Retail Newsagents, which both receive or have received tobacco industry funding, provide the secretariat for the APPSSG on behalf of The Independent Retailers Confederation (IRC).
